The Bolshoi Theater is located next to its little sister, the Maly Theater, and its neoclassical architecture graces the 100-ruble banknote.

The main building dates back to 1856, a more modern and newer stage is also located in an annex. Operas and ballets are performed on both stages, so it is important to note in advance when booking where exactly the desired event will take place. Smaller concerts are also held in the Beethoven Hall near the entrance to the Bolshoi Theater.
