The main building dates back to 1856, a more modern and newer stage is also located in an annex. Operas and ballets are performed on both stages, so it is important to note in advance when booking where exactly the desired event will take place. Smaller concerts are also held in the Beethoven Hall near the entrance to the Bolshoi Theater.

On-site guided tours of the Bolshoi Theater, which highlight the fascinating history of the venerable house, last just over an hour and are limited to a maximum group size of 20 participants. Tickets, which can be booked online, are also available for smaller group sizes as part of private tours.
