Pisa is especially known for the Leaning Tower, the medieval old town, and its rich history as a former powerful maritime republic. The Tuscan city offers not only cultural activities but also other experiences.

Visit the Pisa Cathedral complex

Besides the world-famous Leaning Tower, which is the bell tower of the cathedral, the area of Piazza del Duomo offers an ensemble of other highlights: The cemetery Camposanto Monumentale, the 54-meter-high Baptistery, and of course, the Cathedral itself are a central attraction in Pisa. The Museo dell’Opera del Duomo exhibits art from the buildings of the cathedral complex, e.g., Pisano's relief of a Madonna and Child.

Experience Tuscany

The metropolis Florence, Mediterranean cities like San Gimignano, and the winegrowing region of Monti del Chianti provide variety during a vacation in Tuscany: Most destinations within the region are perfect for a day trip from Pisa.

Visit the Torre Guelfa

Less known, and therefore more of an insider tip, is the Torre Guelfa near the Old Citadel, which offers a view over Pisa. The 15th-century tower was fully reconstructed in 1956 after the destruction caused by World War II.

Admire Santa Maria della Spina

The small church, also known as the Thorn Church, is located directly on the River Arno and has therefore had to be renovated several times after flood damage. The highlights of the small building are the statue of the Nursing Madonna by Andrea Pisano as well as other Gothic statues.
