Experience the Palio di Siena (Horse Race)
Twice a year in summer the Palio di Siena, a horse race, takes place in the Piazza del Campo in the city center. Here always ten of the 17 Contrade, the districts of Siena, compete against each other. The spectacle, which has been taking place like this since the Middle Ages, is not without controversy, but definitely an experience. The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, known in Italian as the Duomo di Siena, is one of the most important buildings of Italian Gothic architecture. In addition to the cathedral itself, the impressive Piccolomini Library, with its frescoes and sculpted tables, is also part of the ensemble.
