Sydney Tower Eye, the viewing attraction inside Sydney Tower, lifts you above the CBD for 360-degree views from 250 m (820 ft) over Hyde Park, Darling Harbour, and the harbor icons. Locals may still call the tower Centrepoint Tower, but the view is the same sharp city compass.

Start with a timed Observation Deck ticket for the easiest visit, and upgrade to SKYWALK if you want the guided open-air thrill at 268 m (879 ft).

7 tips for visiting the Sydney Tower

1
Book before you arrive
If you want the smoothest start, book a timed ticket before you reach Westfield Sydney. Current slots get you into the Level 5 attraction entrance, not straight to the glass, so busy lifts can still add waiting. Having the ticket ready keeps small queue moments from taking over your visit.
2
Use early slots for calm
If quiet windows matter, aim for the earliest opening slots. If photos matter more, late afternoon gives warmer light over Hyde Park and the harbor, but you will share the glass with more sunset hunters. Choosing your priority first saves that awkward lap around every window.
3
Go straight to Level 5
The fastest route is usually the Market Street entrance, then the lifts to Level 5 and the food-court corridor. If you land on Level 4, you have found SkyFeast, not the admissions desk. One extra floor saves a surprisingly common Westfield loop.
4
Treat SKYWALK separately
If SKYWALK is your priority, build the day around it. You need to arrive 45 minutes early, bring photo ID, and book with at least one other person; during December and January school holidays, leave 60 minutes. That buffer protects the moment you came for.
5
Pack for glass platforms
If you are doing SKYWALK, keep pockets simple: phones, cameras, wallets, and other loose items stay off the outdoor platforms. Small lockers are provided for SKYWALK valuables, and guides take the photos outside. That way you can look down without worrying about what might fall.
6
Use passes for Darling Harbour
The Sydney Big Ticket is useful if you also want SEA LIFE Sydney, Wild Life Sydney, or Madame Tussauds Sydney. Multi-attraction passes can be valid for up to 60 days, so you do not have to stack every indoor stop after the tower. That keeps the skyline finish from feeling rushed.
7
Keep a weather fallback
If clouds close in, do not panic-book something across town. The tower's Weather Promise can allow a return within 7 days for bad weather on eligible tickets, and Westfield Sydney keeps you dry while you regroup. This turns a gray view into a flexible pause.

Choosing your Sydney Tower Eye ticket

The ticket choice changes the whole rhythm of your visit. Decide whether you want a simple skyline stop, an outdoor thrill, a multi-attraction day, or a meal above the CBD before you pick a time slot.

Observation Deck entry

Best for first-time visitors, families, and anyone short on time: standard entry takes you to the indoor Observation Deck, 250 m (820 ft) above the streets. You can circle the glass at your own pace, pick out Hyde Park, the harbor, and Darling Harbour, then head back into the CBD without committing half a day. Choose this when the view is enough. Book now.

SKYWALK tickets

Choose SKYWALK if you want the tower to feel physical, not just panoramic. The guided 60-minute outdoor route steps onto glass platforms at 268 m (879 ft), with the CBD directly below and the harbor opening beyond the rooftops. It needs early check-in, photo ID, and a two-person booking, so treat it as the main event. Book now.

Attraction passes

Great when your Sydney plan includes the Darling Harbour cluster. A Sydney attraction pass can link Sydney Tower Eye with SEA LIFE Sydney, Wild Life Sydney, and Madame Tussauds Sydney, and the validity window gives you breathing room. Use the tower as your skyline anchor, then spread the indoor stops over a wetter day or a family-friendly afternoon. Book now.

Dining and VIP formats

Choose a dining or VIP format when the view should stretch into the meal. SkyFeast, Infinity, and Bar 83 sit in the same tower world, but their entrances and levels can differ from the Level 5 viewing attraction, so read your voucher before you enter Westfield Sydney. This is the slower, occasion-led version of the tower. Book now.

Views and story of Sydney Tower

Sydney Tower is more than a high window. Its height, location, and engineering turn the CBD into a map you can actually read, from Hyde Park below to the blue edge of the mountains on clear days.

The high view over the CBD

The indoor deck sits high enough to reorder the city in your head. St Mary's Cathedral and Hyde Park sit close below, Darling Harbour opens west, and the harbor icons pull your eye north. On clear days, the view can stretch up to 80 km (50 miles), which is why the tower works so well before a ground-level walk.

The tower behind the attraction

The complex grew in stages: the first shops opened in 1972, the office component followed in 1974, and Sydney Tower opened to the public in September 1981. At 309 m (1,014 ft), it has remained Sydney's tallest structure, even while locals kept using old nicknames like Centrepoint Tower. That mix of retail maze and skyline symbol is part of its character.

Engineering details worth noticing

The golden turret holds restaurants, the Observation Deck, plant levels, and telecommunications spaces, all reached by double-deck lifts. The tower's 420 windows are cleaned by a semi-automatic machine, and a water-tank damping system helps steady the structure. You do not need to love engineering to enjoy that detail, but it makes the calm deck feel a little more impressive.

Pair the skyline with street level

After the deck, keep the next stop close. Hyde Park and Hyde Park Barracks make a clean history-and-green-space route, while Australian Museum is useful for families or rainy weather. If you want the landmarks you spotted from above, save Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge for a slower harbor route rather than a rushed same-hour dash.

how to get there

The closest rail anchors are St James, Town Hall, and Martin Place. St James is about a 2-minute walk west, while Town Hall and Martin Place are usually 5 to 10 minutes away on foot. Gadigal Station is about 7 minutes away, and taxi or rideshare drop-off works best at Market Street with Pitt Street or Castlereagh Street.

accessibility

The Observation Deck route is wheelchair-, pram-, and mobility-friendly, with accessible toilets, changing facilities, and seating on the deck. A small number of wheelchairs can be borrowed at admissions with photo ID, first come, first served. Large motorized wheelchairs may not fit every lift or area, and SKYWALK participants must complete the outdoor walk unassisted without walking sticks or frames.

lockers

There is no cloakroom or large-item storage for the Observation Deck. Luggage can come up with you, but it must stay with you at all times, and prams may be left at the podium before the lift. Small lockers are available for SKYWALK guests because loose items cannot go onto the outdoor platforms.
