The Temple of Heaven (天壇 or Tiāntán) is a complex of religious buildings set in a beautiful park in southeast Beijing. Traditionally, it was visited by emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties when they would lead annual prayers for a good harvest. The complex has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998 and is extremely popular with local and international tourists.

opening hours

The park gate is open from 6 am to 9 pm in the high season (April 1 to October 31) and from 6:30 am to 9 pm in the low season (November 1 to March 31). The main attractions inside the park, including the Altar of Prayer for Good Harvests, Echo Wall and Circular Mound Altar are open from 8 am to 5:30 pm in the high season and from 8 am to 5 pm in the low season. These attractions are closed on Mondays except on public holidays. The North Divine Kitchen, North Pavilion for Immolation, and Palace of Abstinence are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 12 pm and again from 1 pm to 4 pm. Some attractions may be closed on Mondays.

Tickets for the park cost CNY 15 during the high season and CNY 10 during the low season. Entrance to the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, Circular Mound Altar, and the Echo Wall cost CNY 20. A combined ticket for the attractions and park entrance costs CNY34 in the high season and CNY 28 in the low season.

how to get there

To get to the East Gate, you can take subway line 5 to Tiantandongmen Station, which is also served by bus numbers 6, 34, 35, 36, 39, 43, 60, 116, 128, 525, 623, and 684. To get to the South Gate, you can take bus numbers 36, 53, 122, 525, 958, Special 11, Special 12, Night 20, and Yuntong 102 to Tiantan South Gate Station. To get to the North Gate, you can take bus numbers 6, 34, 35, 36, 72, 106, 110, or Night 11. Alternatively, you can take taxis to any of the gates.
