The Tretyakov Gallery was founded in 1892 when Moscow merchant and art lover Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov donated his spectacular collection to the Russian nation. Today the collection numbers more than 180,000 pieces of art, spread between three sites: the Tretyakov Gallery, the New Tretyakov Gallery, and the House Museums, based in the studios and homes of the artists they feature. Visit to see the finest examples of Russian art from different eras and styles of painting, a must-see for any fan of art history!

opening hours

The Tretyakov Gallery is open from 10 am to 6 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays, and from 10 am to 9 pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The gallery is closed on Mondays. The ticket office closes an hour before the gallery closes.

Tickets cost RUB500 for adults, RUB250 for pensioners from Russia and CIS countries, students over the age of 18, and members of large families. Entry is free for children under the age of 18, members of the Russian military, and disabled visitors and a companion from Russia and CIS countries.

how to get there

The closest metro station is Tretyakovskaya, which is served by the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya and Kalininsko-Solntsevskaya lines of the Moscow metro. It’s also served by trolleybus number 8 and bus number 25. The gallery doesn’t have its own car park, but parking is available nearby for a fee.
